The courses
Santo da Serra Golf Club:
Its original course, built in 1937, was redesigned in 1991 by the famous golf architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. A magnificent course, overlooking the sea and the mountains, the greens are impeccably maintained. Overlooking Machico Bay, holes number 3 and 4 should stay in your golfer’s memory forever. This championship course is accessible to players of all levels thanks to a good disposition of the starting tees. The course is a veritable botanical garden, with four magnificent lakes and breathtaking panoramic views. The golf course of Santo da Serra also has a splendid 9 hole course.
Palheiro Golf Club:
Yet another course blessed with dramatic views of Madeira’s mountainous skyline and the vast Atlantic Ocean. This Par 72 course was designed by renowned golf architect Cabell Robinson, this course has been open since 1993. The greens are large and superbly maintained, with pine tree lined fairways, century-old trees and lush vegetation. This course also enjoys magnificent views that will leave you with unforgettable memories.
Surrounding area
The Island of Eternal Spring is blessed with a warm climate all year long, as well as some of the most unique views in the world. We recommend some great walks to see the Garganta Funda waterfall in Ponta da Pargo, or to discover the natural and volcanic pools of Porto Monuz, after your swim why not enjoy a visit to the Sao Joa Batista Fort, dating from 1730. The small village of Curral das Freiras nestling in the volcanic mountains offers breathtaking views. The typical island village of Câmara de Lobos is located only 8 kilometres from Funchal. Climbing the road you will have panoramic views of Cape Girâo, the highest cliffs in Europe (580 meters high). Without doubt the city of Funchal with its historical centre will delight you.
